Our heritage home had an ill-fitting front door, not original to the house, and above it a semi-elliptical transom that required restoration. The transom had only single panes of glass, so we experienced a lot of frost buildup in the winter. The door would swell causing it to stick when trying to open.
We were referred to Brian and we met with him to discuss our front door, sidelights, and transom restoration project. We wanted the new door and sidelights to be constructed in a manner in line with construction methods used when the house was built, circa 1830. Brian suggested a second internal pane for the transom for improved insulation. The planned fitted panel could be easily removed if needed.
Brian carefully removed the original float glass and transom frame for restoration and took measurements for the door and sidelights, preserving the original two columns framing the door. Wood rot discovered below the door sill was removed.
Work commenced early in the fall of 2022 and within a couple weeks we had a very sturdy new door, sidelights, and restored transom. The first winter had no issues with condensation or the transom icing up and melting. We felt the door was a bit tight for our liking and Brian returned in the spring to correct the issue in a prompt manner.
